Darrell is Director of Development at Liberty Hill He has held senior development positions at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). He serves as Board Vice-Chair of Buddies of New Jersey, Northern New Jersey’s foremost resource center for people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS and sits on the Advisory Board of LifeWorks Teen Mentoring in Los Angeles. As a kid growing up in New Jersey, his mom’s best friends were a white gay couple who adopted a black HIV+ boy named Leon. Darrell watched as his mom’s friends fought – successfully! – to adopt Leon and enroll him in public schools despite New Jersey’s best efforts to prevent the adoption and Leon’s attendance at school. The experience inspired Darrell’s own lifework for equality.
